Bye bye Summer??

 picture google

Reading all over that the weather in Europe isn't that good right now. Rain and rain and it seems that the Fall made it's entry pretty much everywhere already. Well, it's going to be interesting to see if the Summer actually says bye bye here as well now when it's the last day of August. September is coming tomorrow, and you'd think that the fall temperatures will be a bit cooler.

I hope so!! Actually, the weather forecast tells us that these are supposed to be the very last hot days. Then it's going to be more normal warm temperatures. I can't wait!! This week has been very hot again, and today's forecast looks like this..

Dillons Nature Center

 pictures google

Sunday afternoon, we spent at the Dillon Nature Center here in town. We had brought some bread with us for the ducks, and the kids loved to watch them eat. I did leave them in the stroller as long as possible as I did not feel safe with them walking around on their own so close to the edge! It was so hot outside, so we had to cut the walk around the pond and the time by the ducks short and head inside to cool off. With still temperatures around 100F/38C, it's just too hot to stay outside in the sun for a longer time.

Having fun watching the ducks. I folded the trays to the side so that they could have a better view.

Inside the Nature Center, they have a big room where they have an exhibition with natural looking parts of Kansas. Kansas Ponds, Kansas Prairies, Kansas Woods.....it's very nice and they show the animals and plant that live there. The kids loved standing there and watch the fishes and animals behind the glass. They also have many drawers to pull out and you can compare sizes of bird nests, eggs, poop (!), feel the fur of different animals, check out what the animals eat, compare the sizes of their tracks, learn what track is left by a mountain lion, fox  etc etc. Very much to look at and very interesting for most ages.

There is also another room where you can read and learn about Forces of Nature. Learn about erosion and tornadoes. Useful here in Kansas.

Ben wanted to take a really close look....

Isabella is walking at 15 Months!

20,000!!

Wow- just realized that I've reached 20,000 viewers today! That's huge, and I can only repeat myself in what I wrote when I reached 10,000 viewers back in May:

What a great surprise to see that there is more and more people reading and also coming back to my blog. I see every day that there is new visitors from countries all over the world (some that I have a hard time figuring out the flags to I must admit) and I wonder:

Who are you?? Swedish women like myself in different countries, twin moms, military wives?? What made you stop by and read my blog? I would love to find out more about my readers and to find out how you found me. Please let me know who you are and leave a short comment next time you stop by!!

For my blog friends - thank you for letting me be a part in your life and I'm happy to have found you!

For family and friends - thank you for taking the time to check in on us - we miss you all very much and would love to see you all in person instead. At least this way you all won't miss out on the kids and our family too much!!

Isabella 15 Months!

Isabella Sophia:

12-15 Month review:

My beautiful little princess! Adorable - a little innocent looking - but with a HUGE temper and LOTS of energy! Very loud day and night - speaks, laughs, giggles, squeals and screams - all loud! The same words I wrote about her at her 9 Month presentation, and the words that still hold true!

Isabella has changed a lot in her personality. She is now much more mellow and even if she still shows tantrums and has even been pulling her hair at some occasions, she is much more likely to snuggle with you now and she likes to get a book and come and sit in your lap wanting you to read it to her. She cuddles and snuggles with her lovey, teddy bears and dolls, all getting big kisses and so much love. Sometimes even when we tell her to give some "love and kisses" for Benjamin, Cassie or one of us, she leans in and puts her head close. Sometimes she now also give kisses, likes to give "Eskimo kisses" (rubbing nose to nose) especially when she's tired and off to bed. So sweet!

Isabella wakes up between 7-8am and like her brother she most of the time now sleep through the night. We have only had a few nights since their birthday, where she has been up. When she is, it takes forever for her to go back to sleep, she is very hard to put back to sleep. She naps the same times as her brother, normally around 10am-12am or around that time. Most of the time they also have an afternoon nap between 4am-5pm, but lately, Isabella doesn't always sleep in the afternoon. She cries a little bit and then you hear her up there playing in her bed for a while, banging against the wall, crying a little bit and then calming down. But, I still want them to rest/sleep at the same schedule, when they are older, we might let them split nap times up, but for now, it works the best for everyone if they are on the same schedule. Bedtime is around 8pm, and there is very little fuzz. Pretty much just putting them in their beds, love and kisses and night night sleep tight!

She LOVES music and to dance. She sits on her little bottom and turns around and around, hopping up and down and kicks her little legs and feet and waving her hands and shaking her head. Her whole body moves to the music, and it won't be long until she is confident dancing up on her feet!

She claps her hands and plays along with all the nursery rhymes like "Pat a cake", "Where is Thumper?" "Five little Monkeys..", "Itzy bitzy Spider" in both the Swedish and the English versions. She has become very verbal now the last couple of months, and she is now saying mamma, pappa, bye bye, hi, doll (dolly), baby, cat and book. She also speaks a lot while she is playing making her voice play in different tones up and down. She talks on her phone, and she can use any toy as a phone and put it on her shoulder and against her ear and talk away a storm and she always finish the "conversation" with many clear "Bye Bye's"!! She roars like a lion or she can sound like a little kitten when she plays with her cat. She can peep like a little bird when she sees one in books or in the trees. She laughs big and loud!!

She is very strong, jumps up and down in her bed or on the sofa, climbs on the sofa or other furniture, climbs up in the window wanting to look outside. She is fast crawling and she is also as fast on all 4, like a monkey, not crawling on her knees, but walking a lot on hands and feet! She started to take a few wobbly steps here between furniture and did take her first good steps on July 18, one day after turning 14 Months.  She has been practicing a lot since then, and now with 15 Months, she is getting more and more steady and dares to let go more and more. Just the other day, she let go in the living room and walked almost across the room. She is by far not as steady as her brother, but she will soon be! She is so funny, and she is so happy when she reaches out for you big a big proud smile and a big laugh! Like telling the world - "Look at me!"

She used to be our little picky eater when she was younger, but not any more! The last couple of months over the summer, she's eating very good, tastes pretty much everything that you offer her, LOVES fruit of all kind, can eat a whole banana at snack time and I'm so happy! She is also very good with fork and spoon, and wants to eat as much as she can on her own. I'm still hoping that this joy for food will rub off on her brother! She is eating much better and more than him, and therefore she's been gaining weight good as well so she is heavier and a little taller than her brother now.

As her brother she loves her bath time. She really likes the water, and loves to just sit and play. Loves the pool in the garden and also to sit in the swim ring in the big pool. Not fun when it's over though....and to put cream, diaper and pajamas on is often a true struggle. She did use to put up a fight all the time by changing diaper or such, but she is doing much better with that, is slowly getting more patient!

She is such a little girl in so many ways, likes to wear dresses and to look pretty. She puts on hats and tries out shoes all the time. She carries a little handbag on her arm that Cassie gave her and it's so cute!

Her favorite toys at the moment is the dolls, the lion and cats, her rocking horse, the little soft barnyard friends (duck, pig, cow and roaster) and she loves when we pull out the tunnel and then also fill it up with the plastic balls. All the stacking cups and bath toys are still a big favorite, even if they play more and more with them in the pool or in the bathtub, where before they would use them for everything everywhere..

She is still learning to share, just like her brother and she gets into "disagreements" with her brother all the time. Often the toy that the other one is playing with so much more fun! Even if we have two of some of the toys or at least very similar ones..She is still the one that doesn't give in that easy, and Ben is almost always the one that lets go first..I have to break up a lot of fights every day before they get too tough!

She also likes to play hide and seek and just loves when you crawl around on the floor with her. She also likes to roll around on the sofa or in the new cuddly corner that we made in the living room. I put down some heavy blankets and big pillows in a corner where they love to sit and read and to play with their stuffed animals. She likes to sit there and to bounce around!

She likes books, many books are loved more than others, and have been chewed on. But now she is getting more out of them and finding it exciting to read them and to listen to the stories and find and point at things on the pages.

Isabella has at this point 2 upper and 4 lower teeth, but is showing her 3rd upper tooth. There will be more breaking through soon, as the gum is changing in her mouth as well. Her hair is growing a lot too, very uneven, long on the top of her head and also getting longer in the neck, but is still short on the sides. She still hasn't had a ponytail or hair clips, but I'm sure that we would be able to put some in. I don't think that they would stay in the hair that long though, so they would be more of a choking hazard to her and her brother!

My sweet little girl is growing so fast and it won't be far where she will be running around as fast as her brother and it will be so much fun now when we can spend more time outside!

Benjamin 15 Months!

Benjamin Caleb:

12-15 Months review:

My wonderful son, my little snuggle boy! He's still a charmer, laughs and giggles and gives kisses with a big lip sound! He used to be very mellow, but that has changed a lot. He's very energetic and lets you know what he wants and especially what he doesn't want!

We have constant struggles everyday now with eating time and changing time, and he squirms and cries and does not want to sit in his highchair or lay still for a diaper change. There is constant playing and keeping him occupied with toys, singing, playing and making noises etc to make him eat or lay still. I have to make sure that everything is set up and ready on his tray when I put him into the chair, otherwise if he starts to cry or get upset, he will not calm down easily, but start throwing his cup and plate down on the floor.

He, who was always such a good eater before his birthday, unfortunately has become a very picky eater who does not try anything that he doesn't know what it is! He is not gaining a lot of weight. We are fully aware of this, (going for checkups every month with the pediatrician and also with the nurses for weight and length) that he is on the bottom percentage of the charts and that he is to the smaller side, but he is perfectly healthy. He is still gaining, if not a lot, he is still gaining and has never dropped in weight, so there is nothing more to do than to offer nutritious food and making sure that he eats and that he gets his supplement in Pediasure drinks, when he hasn't been eating good for a meal.

The biggest milestone in this period for Benjamin is that he is walking!! He took his first steps just after turning 13 Months on June 18th.  After that he kept taking a few steps here and there and to us and between furniture in the end of June and around July 4th. Those struggling little shaky steps soon turned into a very confident walker and he is now fast and carries toys and stuff with him while walking. Especially now this last month between 14-15 month, he has really taken a big step and is now really confident and even runs here and there for a few steps.

It's so fun to watch him, he is so proud and in the beginning when he was showing off his newly learned skill, he was beaming and his eyes glowing of pride!! He would come walking towards you and then trust you to catch him and he would smile from ear to eat and laugh out loud!

One thing that he doesn't like is to wear shoes, and is always a little more "wobbly" wearing them or walking outside. But inside where he is always barefoot now over the summer, he is fast and walks pretty much all of the time with a little bit of crawling here and there. I have been putting shoes on more and more as it now gets towards fall and the more he walks outside, the more he will need to wear shoes.

There is a lot of "ahahahaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh" and pointing with his little finger on what he wants and he does not have patience to wait! As Benjamin has been concentrating so much on walking, he hasn't really added many words to his vocabulary. He still says "titta" and "mamma and pappa".  He does understand so much though, gets his trucks, monkey, phone or what it might be right away, and he waves bye bye, claps his hands and does different movements to different songs.

He still loves his bath time! There has been a lot of pool time in the garden this hot summer, but not as many to the big pool just because it has been too hot. He likes it when there is not so much water and he likes playing with his cups and toys. Now just recently, he got confident enough to even walk around in the Sprinkler park! He really loved that! Inside in the bath, he shares bath time with his sister, which they like and they splash each other and have fun with bubbles and toys. He also finally learned to like showers, which is so convenient at times!

He used to have eczema on his back an on his shoulders during the winter, but since the last couple of months there has been no signs of it, I hope it stays that way!! I do put on a lot of creme after bath and showers to keep his skin soft and smooth and there has been a lot of sunscreen use this summer!

Benjamin now normally wakes up around 7-8am. It took f o r e v e r, until their first birthday to sleep through the night, and I must say that these 3 months after their birthday, he has been doing just wonderful with sleeping. We have had a few nights where he woke up and screamed loud not wanting to go back to sleep, but as he sleeps good with us, we have normally taken him downstairs to stay with us. Scared to let him cry for too long and wake up his "much harder to put back to sleep" little sister. I don't know why he wakes up here and there like this, but I think that he is dreaming a lot, and because there is so much going on in his development right now. He has been doing good the last weeks, hopefully it stays that way!

I put them both to bed around 8pm and normally they both fall asleep with no fuzz and very little complains. He does sleep twice a day for his naps, most of the times. There are the "normal"  days where they are down for their nap around 10am-12am, and then again around 4pm-5pm. Sometimes they don't go down for their nap until around 11am-1pm, and then sometimes they skip the afternoon nap. I still always let them nap at the same time. Even if one is not as tired as the other one, I do put them down in their beds at the same time.

He is still the one that gets into trouble! His love for all kind of buttons and cords mostly the ones from the TV/PS3/DVD player. Remote controls and phones.....what can I say - it's like an obsession! He has more than once managed to change the settings on the TV that is doesn't work, and we had to unplug everything and plug it back together.....He LOVES doors, and keeps closing them, opening them, closing them and opening them...I have to be very careful that Isabella isn't on the other side or that any fingers gets caught...

His favorite toy for the moment is the trucks, cars and Winnie Pooh Train, the tractor and the farm animals, blocks, legos, bath toys, his monkeys (now adding an orange monkey in the collection from the Zoo). Like I mentioned earlier, if you would consider a remote control or phone a toy - that would be his number ones! Actually, he has both an old remote control from a DVD player that doesn't work and he has toy phones, but they are not nearly as much fun as the real deal!

He also likes looking in books, most of the time there is still a little bit of tugging and chewing on them involved, but he also likes to hear the story and turns the pages for you!

He has at this point still his only 2 upper and 2 lower teeth, but the gum is changing and I'm sure that there soon will be more teeth coming in! His hair is getting longer and soon, I do think that we will have to get him his first haircut. For him not wanting to sit still, making even nail cutting a dangerous act with scissors - cutting his hair, that will for sure be a challenge that I'm not looking forward to. Even if we'll let a professional do this, it will most likely be very stressful!

My sweet little boy is growing so fast, and I'm looking forward to the cooler fall now when we will be able to spend much more time outside and explore the outdoors!

Pronto Pups and Horseback Football

On Saturday, we went to Yoder for their Heritage Day. Yoder is a small community just outside of Hutchinson, where the Amish and Mennonites are mixed and many people still live like in the old days. I don't really know all the differences in their beliefs or what or what not they believe in, but I do know that some of the Amish people still don't use electricity, or at least very little and not in their houses,  or drive any cars, so therefore there is a lot of horses and buggies around! All the women and girls are dressed in their plain dress and they all carry their hair up under a hat.

There was a program of events all throughout the day, but we didn't get there until the afternoon, after the nap and lunchtime. But still it was fun to get out and do something. We did get to see some horses and some other things that the kids thought was fun. It did start to rain later in the afternoon, which didn't really bother us too much, as we were heading back home anyway. Didn't want to stay too long as I wanted to put the twins down for an afternoon nap and start to get organized for our date later that night!

Pronto Pups or Corn dogs as most people know them.
