Saturday Workshop

Saturday, the kids were really excited to get up and going to the Home Depot Workshop again! This time, because daddy was able to come with them. Cassie decided to take advantage of the quiet house and sleep in!

This time we were building EMS trucks, in regard to October being the National Fire Safety Month. They did a great job, and had lots of fun. Instead of being held inside, they had put out all the tables outside, and it was nice as it was a nice morning with temperatures not even reaching 100F. These are the pictures from our morning:

 TA DA!
Trucks are done, the stickers we took with us home to put on when they were all dried.

It was also nice to see that the Firetruck was present outside, and of course the kids were excited to see the truck, meet the firefighters and have a look into their truck. We were lucky to be able to visit with them, as when we were leaving the parking lot, they got a call and had to leave.

Kids Workshop On A Saturday Morning

This past Saturday, I took the twins to Home Depot early morning. Every first Saturday of the month, they have a free workshop for kids to build things. Cassie was at her friend's house for a sleepover and Chris was working, so it was only me and the little ones. This was the first time that we've been here, always seem to miss this, and this time I had registered online far in advance to be sure to get a spot, as there is a lot of people there, and the supplies run out fast if you haven't signed up early.

They were not too excited to be woken up early and have to hurry to get ready to get out of the house. There was a lot of complaining, also as they didn't really know what was waiting for them, but when we got there, they were all smiles! We went to sign in and each child received an apron, a building set and then we were found ourselves a spot at the table.

Ready to get started!

Teamwork!

Gluing the legs before getting the nails in..

The tables were too high to get a good swing in with the hammers, but when we put the wood structure down on the floor, the kids did hammer in all of their 4 nails on their own! And no fingers were hurt in the process...or at least no kids' fingers, mommy's finger got hit a few times while I was holding..

Concentration - and his little tongue is sticking out !!

They got to pick out colors for their planters.

They had so much fun doing this, I feared for this moment as it could easily turn into a disaster, but they did great! We needed a lot of wet wipes to get rid of the paint, but they did a wonderful job on the planters. I helped them holding them up a bit so they easier could paint all sides of the legs, but other than that, they did all of the paintwork.

There were three of these long tables filled with people and a lot of families were sitting around on the floors too. Under the brown gazebo, they were giving out flower plants for the kids to put into their planters. While we were waiting for the paint to dry, the kids picked out a flower each and then  had a granola bar and a drink.

Almost dry...

Proud little carpenters!

Such a great morning! The kids also received a certificate, a pin to pin onto their apron, a coloring paper of what they just built, and an invitation to next time. I will sign them up for sure, as this was a success! It would have been easier to be one adult per child of course, as you have to help out some, but they did great taking turns and it worked out wonderful and I was very proud of them! I don't know if they do this all over the US, but if you have a Home Depot close to you, I would check it out.
