Mommy-daughter date!!

Cassandra has now for a long time wanted to see the movie "Tangled" and on Sunday we finally made it happen. As Chris and Cassandra has been to the movies the last couple of times, it was time for some much needed "Mommy-daughter time"! We had a great time, enjoyed a funny movie and of course a big bowl of popcorn!

Christmas Eve - Gift opening!

In the evening it was finally time to open the rest of the presents. Santa was very generous and had brought the kids lots of presents and it took some time to get everything opened up. They also got presents from us as well. The big sister got something very special this Christmas, something that was highly wanted and very much earned after all her help with the babies we thought. She got a pink iPod touch. Funny enough it was the first present that she choose to open, and we even had to tell her that there is more, she could have stayed the whole evening checking out her iPod and she would have been just as happy.

Cassandra's presents: iPod, pink/gray inline skates, clothes, jeans dress, Pippi Longstocking towel, earring/necklace with snowflakes, a dock/clock radio for the iPod, earphones for the iPod, Tinkerbell/Fairy make your own books set, Tinkerbell the movie, lots of books, a pink Barbie guitar and a sing along Barbie dvd.

Some of Cassandra's moments:

Daddy showing all her favorite music that he already had downloaded to the iPod.

Benjamin and Isabella of course didn't really know what was going on, but they were in a good mood, and had a great time with all the wrapping paper and were surprised about all the "noisy toys" that Santa brought...

Benjamin's presents: a Boppy pillow (perfect to keep steady practicing sitting without falling and hurting themselves or to just use to chill out on..), a steering wheel, Baby's Learning Laptop from Vtech, a train set, books, Bamse clothes, Herr Nilsson (the monkey from Pippi Longstocking), a gray cellphone and a photo frame.

Some of Benjamin's moments:

His absolute favorite! He just couldn't stop laughing!

Isabella's presents: a Bobby pillow, a Rhyme & Discover Book from Vtech, an alligator, stacking/pouring cups, books, Bamse clothes, Pippi Longstocking doll, a pink cellphone, bath toys and a photo frame.

Some of Isabella's moments:

Isabella really liked the stacking cups.

Cassandra had made a wonderful picture for me and Chris picturing our family on our first Christmas together with the babies and she had a whole bag filled with presents. A necklace for me, cards and a wonderful story book that they had worked on in school.

Chris and I don't really exchange gift anymore, as it's more a holiday for the children we think. We normally end up buying something that we need instead. This year I went shopping in Wichita and ended up with new boots, jeans and a shirt. Still there was something under the tree that I got to open and it was a very much needed blender for the kitchen. Chris and Cassandra had given me hints before that "it's something that both mommy and daddy could use, but that I would use/need more, something that was needed at home because the old one broke.." Considering the hints I guessed it would be one out of two things, a scale or a blender. Well, according to the box it wasn't a scale anyway!! Don't know if I would have liked the hint -that I would need it more- about a scale....Our old blender broke, but now with the babies needing mixed food, we were in need for a new one! Chris also got to open a present from the children, a photo frame with a picture of the three for his office and then Chris had picked out a play station game to put under the tree as well.

 Beautiful picture!!

Then, there were no more presents to open under the tree, and the clean up started. Then it took some time to put the babies to bed, overstimulated as they were plus that they still are having a cold and very stuffed noses..But I know for sure that we had one happy big sister who went to bed that night!!

Christmas Eve!

Christmas Eve morning, Cassandra went downstairs to check out if Santa had paid a visit during the night, and yes, he had!! Remember that here in the US he comes the night before Christmas Day, so we are always a little bit worried that he won't remember that there is half Swedish children living in this house. By coincidence (or to prove a point to Santa?) Cassandra had even put on her Swedish pajama! The question always comes - does Santa know that this family celebrates Christmas on Christmas Eve???  But Santa knows - and paid us a visit (like every year) one night early! Perfect for Santa to "test drive" the sleigh with a short stop here before taking the long trip over the pond to Europe!

The stockings were filled to the brim with candy, little presents (chewing toys for the twins and Silly bandz for Cassandra), ornaments with their initial as a keepsake and little gingerbread man candle holders for all three of them. Benjamin and Isabella thought it was very exciting with the wrapping paper and the big commotion so early in the morning.

While the babies checked out their new toys and Cassandra was reading one of her new books, I made the typical Swedish porridge "Tomtegrot" for breakfast. It takes time, as I have to make it from scratch. No finished product to buy from the store in a plastic tube just to warm up, unfortunately...Cassandra was allowed to open one present under the tree and she choose one from Santa. It was a pack of seven Fairy books and it even had a Diamond ring charm that came with it! Santa did good!! Before the evening she had finished at least four of them!!

Tomtegrot breakfast!

For lunch, we had a small smorgasbord with a few Swedish Christmas dishes. We had deviled eggs with shrimps, meatballs, small sausages, herring, baguette, crackers, cheeses, smoked salmon, breads and with that we drank Julmust! A soda that is only available at Christmas (and Easter...but that's beside the point). So yummy! Well, me and Cassandra think so, my husband is happy to pass! Somehow, I missed taking a picture of our buffet, but at least I got a picture from the babies on the table watching us eat! Next year they will be able to eat with us!

After the buffet, Chris put the big ham into the oven to get ready for dinner later on. Then we spent the afternoon trying to get a good connection with my brother over first msn and then Skype. Well, we always seem to have some problem, but this time my brother had a power support problem the whole day. Sometimes the stove would work, but not at the same time as the dishwasher, the tree would keep blinking and in some of the rooms there was no power at all...not really ideal and where to find an electrician on Christmas?! Anyway, after a long time, they were able to download Skype over the mobile computer so we could chat and see each other, well the most interesting for them was of course to see the babies.

It was great to catch up with them, and also with my youngest sister and fiancee that were there as well. Later while Chris was busy in the kitchen making Christmas dinner ready, the big ham, potato gratin with beans and corn, I fed, nursed and put the babies down for a nap. When they woke up a little bit later, they were in a great mood for some Christmas pictures! Here are a few - enjoy!

My beautiful children!!! I love you!!!

Here the twins played a trick on Cassandra - too funny! Isabella was pulling on Cassandra wanting to kiss her and while Cassandra turned to Isabella - Benjamin took the opportunity to pull the hat off Cassandra's head!! It was so funny and we all had a great laugh about it!

Step 1 - getting the big sister's attention..

Step 2 - hold on and kiss her while....

Step 3 - brother pulls the hat off!!

Hahaha - you got me!!

Here big sister just pulled his hat off - making him smile at the same joke...

Dopey??

Of course in Sweden at 3 pm you would watch Disney on TV. I think that pretty much every family are doing this as a tradition. The question is normally "Do you open the presents before or after Disney on TV?". We didn't get to watch this of course, but as you see in the picture above - who needs to see it on TV, when we have a copy of the cutest of the seven dwarfs here at home!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS - GOD JUL - FROHE WEIHNACHTEN

After dinner, which was delicious - so good that I concentrated on eating and not taking pictures again..we finally got around to open the rest of the gifts under the tree. Pictures from this will follow in another post later here on the blog.

Cookies for Santa

Thursday night, we finally got around to bake the gingerbread cookies. There was no way that Santa wouldn't have a plate full of decorated homemade cookies waiting for him at night. Cassandra did a great job, it's not easy to bake with the premade dough here in the US, a very big difference to the Swedish one!! Anyway, the twins thought it was great to be involved - they wanted to be even more involved and eat both the dough, rolling pins and cookies..

For the decorating part, we waited until the twins were sleeping, or at least that was the plan, but they didn't want to miss out of the fun, so it was hard to get things done and kitchen looked like a mess. At least Cassandra got her cookies ready for Santa and she proudly put them on a plate for him by the fireplace. Of course we also put some carrots out for the reindeer and not to forget - the glass of milk!
