Field Trip To The Zoo

One day in May, the kids had their longed for Field Trip to the Zoo! They were so excited, and as we have been there many times, they were happy to be back and show some of their friends around that had yet not been to the Zoo.

I had signed up to volunteer this day, and went on the bus with them. We were five volunteers, and we each got a group assigned to us with four kids, of course our own were included in the group.

Benjamin and Isabella were happy to get their best friends Kaden and Alanna in our group!

 On the bus!!
 Silly friends!!

Waiting in line!

The first stop was the Wonder Museum, that is located inside the Zoo. It's a Children's Museum, with dancing, interacting, lights, sounds and all kind of activities.  As there were a lot of kids, seven different Kindergarten classes this day, there were a lot of kids in the museum, so to avoid the crowds, I took my group downstairs and started on the bottom floor and worked our way up. This way we were alone on the bottom floor where the dance floors are for awhile before others joined us.

Dancing as a bear and monkey!

Jumping and dancing!

Tornado in the making!

Checking out our planet!

Music corner!

Light switching cubes!

Illusion that you could shake your own hand!

Here we ran into Mrs. H, their Kindergarten teacher!

When the time in the museum was up, we walked toward some empty benches and tables to have our packed lunches before checking out the animals. The kids were hungry and thirsty, and luckily we all had brought plenty of water for them to drink, as it was a hot and humid day!

 Lunch break!

Kaden's mom and little sister, met us in the Zoo, and walked around together, therefore an extra child in the pictures sometimes! Nice to have another mom with me to keep an eye on the kids and for company.

My kids call this monkey the "rainbow butt monkey" and all the kids somehow heard that and started to call him that! It was fun, and the monkey was showing off his colorful butt to the kid's delight! Even just walking around the Zoo afterward, I heard several kids talk about the "rainbow butt monkey".

Checking out the hippos!

Water break by the giraffe!

Of course we had to stop by the baby elephant!

After walking around for awhile, we walked up to the Petting Zoo. Unfortunately, the animals were shortly thereafter going on a break, back into the AC, so they couldn't pet the Guinea Pigs, rabbits or goats, only turtles and chickens were left outside when we came.

Ben was showing his friends how to gently hold the chick with both hands.

After washing our hands, the kids had another snack in the shade before walking along. It was needed to get them some energy, as they were getting tired, mostly due to the heat!! And thanks to the vending machines, I was able to stock up on new cold water for their drink bottles!! We drank a lot of water during this day!!

Group pictures by the Zoo sign!

Waiting for the bus to go back to school.
On the bus back with my little girl!

We had a great day, it was a bit hot, but still doable. The worst about the weather here is the humidity, that sucks the energy out of you and makes you all sticky!!

Still, the rainy season was just about to start at this time in May, so we were happy that we didn't get rained on, as it was raining the day prior and the next day!

Kindergarten Fieldtrip

In the week before Spring break, I went as a chaperone with the twins to go on their first Kindergarten Field trip. We are actually going to have a second Field trip in Kindergarten soon, which also will be very fun to take part in. This time, we were going on the bus to another base and then to a restaurant to be able to make pizza, and go through different stations. The kids were excited to go, and I'm glad that I could come along.

To make the kids stand quiet in line and hands to themselves, the teacher tells them to
"put on their seat belts and put a bubble in their mouth"
Ben and Mommy on the bus!
Bella and Mommy at the restaurant!

Excited to get inside and see what they were going to do!

The kids were going on a tour to check out the big walk in fridge and the freezer. That was the "high light" for many as the deep freezer was FREEZING cold and we were sent in there to count to six and he closed to door and turned the light OFF! Cold and dark- kids were screaming! :)

Here hands washed and rubber gloves on to be able to prepare some pizza!

A lot of waiting in line!

Benjamin and Isabella were the first in our group to stand in line, and they got to roll out the dough! Fun!! They did a great job, and the chef was so patient!

The kids after us, were putting on sauce, cheese and pepperoni.

They were also able to choose their own drink from the drink station and take it back with them to the table to wait for the food! Pink lemonade was a popular choice!

Isabella and best friend A.

 Isabella with her lunch.
Ben also ordered chicken nuggets and french fries.

 I ordered a nice Grilled Chicken/Parmesan salad.
They also got Chocolate Chip cookies - big as the whole face!

 Silly girls...
...and silly boys!

We had a fun day. I'm glad that I can take part in these things, and with two kids in the class, I also feel obligated to help out as much as I can in and outside of the classroom. Being able to volunteer is something that I'm glad that I can do for Ben and Isabella, just like I used to for Cassandra when she was in Elementary School.
