I know, I've already posted many pictures from our days by the river, but as this is what we do, there will be more pictures. I'm so happy that we have this place, as it's brutally hot here, and if you don't have a pool in your yard, you are pretty much doomed to stay inside otherwise. Going to the pools every time we want to play in the water, it's quite pricey, and nothing that we can do all the time with a big family. So with no beach in sight - the river takes care of our need for swimming/playing in the water and to build sand castles! It's actually better than being a good substitute for the beach. It's close, only 20 minutes away, it's PERFECT with it's sandy beach and shallow water with perfect river beds for the kids to play and swim.
That we have to bring our own shade doesn't matter, most people here have tents, big umbrellas or other means to stay out of the sun, and it works great. Since we bought a portable grill, we can enjoy even longer days by the river, and it's working out great for us. Cassie enjoys bringing a friend along, and on Sunday, she brought another good friend K, along for some river fun. Here are some of the pictures from our day!
Under the bridge, that's where we normally hang out!
Cassie and K.
Isabella was happy that I brought her Sea Horse from last year along.
Ben was busy most of the time covering a rock up with sand, digging and building around it. An umbrella covered him up as he stayed by the rock all the time while playing in the sand.
Drink break. There are many drink breaks throughout a day like this in this heat!
Watermelon is also something that just tastes wonderful on these days!
The small round sweet seedless ones are just so tasty and in season as most of the fruit right now, and the kids love them!
Sweetness overload..!
Dinner time!
My sweet little princess, with red cheeks from the melon and long beautiful eyelashes..
Ben's dragon was brought along too! Thank goodness for a big car then we can blow these up with the pump at home and bring as is!
After another afternoon by the river, it was time to get back home. Chris had an issue at work all weekend, and he had to spend most of the days and nights there for a reason that we can't get into detail about here, but he got a few hours off during the afternoon, and had to be back at work later that evening. We were happy that we got to have him for ourselves for a few hours anyway, Cassie was happy to have her friend stay the night and the little ones were tired after bath time when we came home, and luckily they went to bed at a reasonable bedtime, even if there were giggles coming from the room in between their bedrooms..
